We can help you keep your child and home free of germs! Since kids will sleep with their stuffed animals, try to eat them or put their hands (complete with day-long accumulated grubbiness) all over the toy, it’s important to keep the plush toys as clean as the rest of your home. Collectors too have that stuffed animal that could use a little cleaning — maybe it collected dirt on a shelf or the dog or cat got their paws on it! And since friends and fans have been writing us on Facebook asking, “what’s the best way to clean a dirty plush animal or toy?” — we went to our friends at Aurora, the manufacturer of thousands of plush toys and gifts, who gave us a great list of tips to clean your plush toy or animal. Maybe it’s time to clean your YooHoo & Friends animal?
Stuffed Animal with a Sound Chip
For plush toys that can’t be machine washed or immersed in water:
- wash its surface only
- use a soft toothbrush to remove any stuck on dirt or debris. This also loosens any dirt that might be stuck deep in the fibers
- use a warm, damp cloth to wash the surface of the toy
Stuffed Animal without a Sound Chip
For stuffed toys that do not have a sound / electric chip inside:
- hand wash the toy with mild detergent
- hand washing also prevents any scratches on the eyes of your toy
Keep in mind, whether you hand-washed or machine-washed the plush toy, most can’t be dried in a hot dryer. Air dry the plush toys or place them in the dryer on an air only cycle for up to twenty minutes.
Other Tips
- Dust stuffed animals off periodically with a clean, soft cloth
- Use a cloth and a mild detergent to spot clean them
- Place it in the dryer on the lowest heat setting for around 5 minutes
- To get rid of odors, place in the dryer on the lowest heat setting for 5 minutes with a dryer sheet (i.e. Downy, Snuggle etc.)
